He not only got famous in the field of business but also brought a good status in the industrial sector. Despite being born into a poor family, he took a lot of effort, chased his dreams, and brought them to come true in reality.
To start any business, it is very important to do some investment in it, but Dhirubhai did not have adequate funds for investment. Later, he started an import and export business with his cousin brother. He started Reliance Commercial Corporation at Masjid Bandar, Narsinathan Street of Mumbai. Initially, he used to import Polyester yarn and export spices. He also had a good knowledge of clothes trading and got good opportunities in this sector. Dhirubhai built a business empire of Rs. 75 Billion Dollars, 20 years ago.
Pursue your goals even in the face of difficulties, and convert adversities into opportunities. With this thought, Dhirubhai developed some strategies to reach the peak of success.
Dhirubhais father was a Teacher and his mother was a housewife. His financial conditions were not good, which was like a barrier to his educational carrier. Due to this, he needs to leave his school studies in meantime. To support his family financially, he also started selling Pakoras. He also started selling fruits and some breakfast, but it does not bring good benefits.
Then he started selling the Pakoras before the spiritual and tourist places. But he consistently got failures. Later, he decided to do a job in Yemen with the help of his elder brother. He got his first job on the petrol pump at Shell company and acquired a managerial position on the basis of his efforts and skills. He always tried to find ways of doing business while working. He studied Business Management to achieve his dream and he gradually became a successful businessman.
Dhirubhai has to leave his school education, due to financial issues, but still he became a billionaire because he gave more importance to building and improving skills. He was not able to complete his studies but never stopped learning. He learned accounting, bookkeeping, and how to make shipping papers while doing a job in Yemen. He also learned how to deal with the insurance company people and improved his negotiation skills. These skills helped him a lot in improving his business. His skills escalated the business and raised it to the peak of success.
When Dhirubhai returned to India with just Rs. 500, he started the business of spices. He used to work on the fact - low profit, and high quality. So he started selling spices in India as well to gulf countries and became famous due to best quality. He named this brand - Vimal, which became very famous in India, which focused more on quality. It became a popular fashion brand in India. In 1966 he started a business mill in Ahmedabad and used the best machines of the world to deliver the best quality product. He became famous and his business started growing rapidly with this high quality.
Dhirubhai faced many issues when he started a business mill. After the rift occurred in his partnership in 1965, and the fall of Rupees in 1966 then his expenses started increasing rapidly. But still, he did not surrender before the challenges and started manufacturing clothes in the mill. He faced the next challenge when no one was ready to buy his clothes. The will power has the ability to generate its own way. So Dhirubhai himself went to the retailers and shopkeepers and started selling the clothes. This way the Vimal brand built its reputation in the market. His stubbornness and willpower helped him overcome all the barriers and made Reliance the biggest business house in India.
The risks push us from our comfort zone and ask us to achieve more. Dhirubhai always used to work out of his comfort zone. He used to take a risk before investing in the business, which escalated the business toward the peak of success. His business of spices was working well but still, he came into the business of Polyester. Because he liked taking a risk and investing more, which used to bring more profit to his business. He found more scope in the textile and put his step inside Yarn trading. Gradually, he stepped into the petrochemicals business, and then into communication, and many more.
The success of the young entrepreneur will be the key to Indias transformation in the new Millenium - Dhirubhai Ambani.
