Azim Hashim Premji was the chairman of Wipro Limited, which is one of the largest IT services company in the world. He is an Indian businessman, investor, engineer, and Philanthropist, and is informally known as the Czar of the Indian IT Industry. He is Indian business tycoon. He had put the best of his efforts to escalate the business and take it to the height of success.

Early Life

Premji was born on 24 July 1945 in Bombay, India in a Gujarati Muslim family. His father was a noted businessman and was known as the Rice King of Burma, who was doing a business of cooking oil and soap. He pursued the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree. He launched Western Indian Vegetable Products Limited at Jalgaon, Maharashtra, India, after the birth of Azim Premji. After completing his education, his father wanted him to go to America to study and handle the business.

Growing with Business

So he made him study at Stanford University in America. He got to learn many newer things there. As the scope of computers was not familiar in India but it had good scope in America, so he learned IT and its importance. He further made himself busy with his studies for a better future. But unfortunately, he had to leave his studies due to the death of his father and returned to India. He thought to handle the business of his father but was suggested by the people not to do so. But he decided to handle the same business and began with his work. The business was growing day by day under his leadership.

Taking Responsibility

Wipro was founded by Mohamed Premji with the name Western India Vegetable Products Limited on 29th December 1945, which was later known as Wipro. After the death of Mohamed Premji, his son Ajim Premji took the responsibility of the company on his shoulders.

Wipro is a customer-centric company, which has its headquarters at Bangalore. It gives priority to its customers, and takes the best of its efforts to fulfill their needs to the fullest.

Azim Premji completed his Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and established the Azim Premji Foundation in 2001. He is an Engineer, Investor, Philanthropist, and also Indian businessman, and chairman of Wipro Limited.

Other Services

He brought many other services to the business such as - hair care soaps, lighting products, toiletries, and hydraulic cylinders, and tried to escalate it. He named the company Wipro Products Limited in 1977. As India was behind and unfamiliar with the IT sector during those days, so Ajim Premji found a great opportunity in that sector, and hence decided to escalate the company in the same sector, and later changed the name of the company to Wipro Limited in 1980. Later, his company along with an American company Sentinel Computer Corporation started making mini computers. Gradually, the company reached the peak of success and became one of the biggest companies, which made him the richest person.

Achievements

He earned a name and fame along with prosperity, and consistently got success. He proved to be the best boss for his employees and the best person for other people.

He founded Azim Premji Foundation in the year 2001, which was founded with the intention to help the poor and needy people. It works with the Government in different states in the field of education.

He received several honorary degrees like he was conferred an honorary doctorate from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Wesleyan University in Connecticut in 2009 for his outstanding work in philanthropy. He was also conferred with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India for his outstanding work in Trade and Commerce.
