Jamnalal Bajaj was born in 1889 in Kashi Ka Bas, near Sikar, Rajasthan Rajasthan. He was the son of Kaniram and Birdibai and got involved in his family business. He acquired the skills of being a tradesman.

He had a deep interest in the lifestyle and principles of Mahatma Gandhi. He used to understand his vision and principles - Ahimsa and dedication to the poor. He was very much impressed by the simple lifestyle of Mahatma Gandhi and the routine of prayer in the ashram and hence brought his wife and children to live there. He joined the non-co-operation movement, and also participated in the flag satyagraha, but got detained by the British. He was also elected as a chairman of the reception committee for the Nagpur session of the INC. He was named the president of Gandhi Seva Sangha.
